About the Photograph
Drawing on E. J. Bellocq’s portraits of women in New Orleans’ Storyville district, this photograph brings two contemporary sex workers into dialogue with the city’s photographic past. Rather than treating Bellocq’s subjects as figures sealed in history, the work imagines the two generations as part of a continuum—women separated by a century, but connected through place, labor and representation.
