Longing for the Desert

The heat wave that recently blasted through the South got me missing the arid climate of the desert. I miss the way the wind would lift the particles of sand and brush against my face and the open expanse of endless miles of dry land like another dimension.

I made the work below. The desert is personified by a female spirit, wrapped in colored sand as geological structures from Monument Valley in Northern Arizona lie in the background. A white wild horse races toward her through the wispy, spirit-like confluence of wind and sand because “Wild horses couldn’t drag me away”.

The work is yet untitled although there are some ideas of what it will be. It’ll be available soon enough through the online store.
